Betty Dion is the founder of the Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments (GAATES), an internationally recognized leading organization dedicated to the accessible design of the built and virtual environments.

Betty has been a frequent speaker at the United Nations Conferences of States Parties (UN-COSP) meetings on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, accessibility of the built environment, emergency egress and fire and life safety and the design of assistive technologies.
